Excerpts

(I assigned some of my classes the 31 Reverb journal prompts and gave them 31 days to compelte them. Odd, cruel, maybe, but I really enjoyed meeting my students through their writing. Hopefully excerpting some of my favorites doesn't break copyright or other laws?)

"The most joyful ordinary moment was when I was at JROTC practice. When we see each other mess up it is a hilarious and joyful moment." (JJ)

(Sunday a.m. ... more excerpts I don't want to forget.)

"2010 was a little rocky but fun. I am truly blessed to say I lived to see 2010." (AK) AMEN sister!! Great way to put that thought.

(Monday a.m. ... some more...)

"Dear my past self, First off you should study more because this scientist life takes a lot of knowledge. Also you should read everyday so you can become mindful of everything you should know. ... Just prepare yourself for the future." (MJ)

"The wisest decision I made this year was deciding to pass Miss Nelson’s English II class. It’s like trying to fit your foot into a shoe half your size. It’s hard, uncomfortable, and frustrating. Don’t get me wrong, Miss Nelson, you’re a fantastic teacher, but please do not become any more passionate than what ou already are. You’ve already killed me like, seventy million times. Ugh, chill out!
Even though I dread doing homework, projects are definitely included, I haven’t been so interested in class (for there to be no music). In my other classes I can’t pay attention for more than 15-17 minutes at a time without music. Unfortunately, I promised A that I’d pass your class (and I never break a promise) So I’m working on it." (RW)

"During this year I can recall a time when I became integrated with my body. [...] It's like a wave of intelligence just overtook my entire body. Every question they dished out at me I quickly responded back with a highly educated response. I don't know what it was, it just a part of my brain configured these facts and solutions from everywhere. As I was saying these things, I was thinking to myself, 'Is this really me and did I actually just say this?' That truly was a proud day." (BM)
